Meet Alice....
The first story you sell is the one you never forget. Mine was to David C. Cook for a take-home Sunday School paper called Sprint. The year was 1988, this was my first submission to a paying market, and the check sent to me was for $125.00.
I was on my way!
Since then, I've sold articles and devotions to the
Upper Room, Alive Now, Standard Publishing, ByLine magazine
and others. I've also written for free because after Daniel
died in 1997, my desire was to get my tributes to him
out there regardless of whether I was paid or not.
I've also been rejected more times than I care to count.
It is one thing to be turned down when your article is on the
best soil to grow petunias in, quite another when the typed
manuscript holds the anguish over the loss of your
four-year-old.
In Daniel's memory and the memories of many children,
two cookbooks were compiled.

RAIN SONG
In 2006, I polished my novel and sent it to an agent in Virginia.
This novel had more face lifts than any celebrity and
if this agent couldn't sell it, I was packing my bags for a place
where there were no computers and no tugging at my
heartstrings to write.
Kristin Lindstrom called to say she would represent me, and that
was totally amazing that I had an agent, at last. She sent my novel
to a dozen publishers in November.
January 5, the day before my birthday, Kristin
called to say that Bethany House was interested.
Rain Song will be available in bookstores on October 1.
Since I signed a two-book deal with Bethany House,
the next book, How Sweet It Is, will be out in 2009.
Sunflowers given to me for writing inspiration
from a dear friend who would be embarrassed
if I named her; but she knows who she is.
